How often should I clean my teeth?

One of the most common questions asked during consultations is: “If I brush properly, do I really need professional cleaning?” The short answer is yes.
Even if you maintain good hygiene at home, there are always hard-to-reach areas where plaque and tartar build up. Tartar cannot be removed with a toothbrush, no matter how electric and modern it may be. It can only be removed in a clinic with specific instruments.
In most cases, it is advisable to have your teeth cleaned every 6 months. However, not all patients are the same. If you are prone to tartar build-up, suffer from gingivitis or wear braces, it may be advisable to have it done more frequently.
Cleaning not only improves aesthetics (whiter teeth and a feeling of freshness), but also prevents major problems such as periodontitis, tooth mobility, or persistent bad breath.
Think of it as maintaining your car: if you service it on time, you avoid more expensive breakdowns. Your smile works the same way.
